Jacob Chronicles for Kids: Volume 1, Issue 7

Updated: Dec 10, 2023

Joshua became God's prophet to the children of Israel after Moses died. He spoke for God and would lead Israel into Canaan, the promised land.

God commanded Joshua three times in Joshua 1 to be strong and of good courage. In Joshua 1:9 we read, "for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

Joshua was a warrior in the Lord's army. God gave Joshua and His people Jericho, a city located in Canaan. But there was one problem. A wall 12 feet high and 6 feet wide surrounded the city.

Ask an adult if you can borrow their tape measure. With their help, find 12 feet on the tape measure. Next, find 6 feet. That's how high and wide the wall of Jericho stood.

God told Joshua how to take down the wall of Jericho. Joshua and his army marched around the city once.

Seven priests with seven trumpets went with them. They blew their trumpets continually. They did this for six days.

Now early in the morning on the seventh day, they marched around the city seven times. The seven priests blew their seven trumpets. Joshua said to the people, "Shout, for the Lord has given you the city!" The wall fell down flat. They took the city.

What is one thing that scares you? God wants you to be strong and of good courage. Courage is the strength to do something even though you're afraid.

Remember, God was with Joshua. He is with you, too, wherever you go.

Parent Tip: Head over to my activities for kids blog and print the word search puzzle. Help your child find clues, as you search for the words together.

Word search puzzles help improve your child's reading fluency as they scan, decode, and recognize the words for which they are searching.
