The Hem of His Garment
The Verse
And He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace." Luke 8:48
The Story

Jesus and His disciples stepped off the boat in Capernaum. They had just returned from the Gerasene region where Jesus healed the demon-possessed man living among the tombs. And when the people of that region heard about all that had happened, they begged Jesus and His disciples to leave.
A large crowd gathered around Jesus by the seashore upon Jesus' return to Capernaum. They welcomed Him, and pressed into Him, eager to hear more of His teachings. Eager to witness more of His miracles.

He was Jairus. A man with a name. An official of the synagogue. Respected by all who entered to gather, to pray, to study the Torah. A community educated in the arts, generous with their donations and their service to the community.
Jairus didn't have to push his way through the crowd. They moved aside and let him through. He approached Jesus and fell before His feet. He pleaded with Jesus, "My little daughter, she is only twelve, and she is at the point of death; please come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will get well and live."
Jesus went with Jairus, and the crowd followed. They pressed and pushed and swarmed.

She was a woman without a name. A woman who kept on bleeding for twelve years. Unclean and cast out of the Synagogue. Penniless, with nothing to give. For she had spent all she had on physicians and treatments. Nothing worked. She was worse now than ever before.
She crawled through the crowd. Feet kicking her face. Dust flying into her eyes. Her body aching all over. Bleeding. But she didn't care. She kept thinking to herself, "If only I could touch the hem of His robe, I will be healed."
She reached Jesus. She touched the hem of His robe. And she was healed.
But Jesus stopped; and then everyone in the crowd stopped. Jairus began looking around while twisting the ring on his left finger.
"Who is the one who touched Me?" said Jesus.
His disciples looked at Jesus and then at each other. "Master, the people are crowding and pressing in on You."
But Jesus said, "Someone did touch Me, for I was aware that power had gone out of Me."
The woman without a name came trembling and fell at Jesus' feet. There at His feet she confessed in front of everyone all that she had gone through for the past twelve years. "But when I touched You, I was immediately healed!"
And He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace. "
Now someone came to Jairus from the house of the synagogue and told him his daughter had died. "There is no need to bother the Teacher now."
Jairus hung his head and turned to go home. But Jesus said to him, "Do not be afraid any longer; only believe, and she will be made well."
On that day, a woman without a name was healed because of her faith. She arose from the dirt a daughter of the King of kings.
In the meantime, Jairus's little daughter died. Jairus was of the house of the synagogue; yet he was filled with fear. But Jesus said to him, "Believe in Me." Jairus believed at that moment, and his child was raised to life again at the command of the King of kings.

Faith in Jesus is powerful. Because of her faith, the bleeding woman was healed simply by touching the hem of Jesus' robe.
Because Jairus shook off his fear and believed in Jesus, his little daughter arose to life again.
While faith doesn't guarantee we will always be healed, it does produce in us steadfastness and endurance to run this race.
It gives us hope and strengthens us in our trials. We need to only believe and trust in all of God's promises, like this one:
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
