Jacob Chronicles for Kids: Volume 1, Issue 6

Have you ever watched God do something so awesome you couldn't help but sing and dance? Maybe you lost something valuable, and God helped you find it. Perhaps a loved one was sick, and God healed them.

Miriam watched her brother, Moses, part the Red Sea with the rod of God. In Exodus 15:19, we read, she and "the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea."

But Pharaoh and his chariots went into the sea after them. The Israelites must have lost hope when they looked back and saw Pharaoh and his men at their heels.

Then God did something awesome. He released the parted waters of the sea upon Pharaoh and his men. God's people made it safely to the other side of the Red Sea. They began their journey to the promised land.

Miriam took the tambourine in her hand. She led all the women in singing and dancing. The Song of Miriam goes like this:

"Sing to the Lord,

For He has triumphed gloriously!

The horse and its rider

He has thrown into the sea!"

Filled with joy at what God had done, Miriam and all the Israelites danced and sang praises to Him. God fought for them, and the victory belonged to the Lord.

Grab your favorite musical instrument, sing a song of praise, and dance because of all the great things God has done for you.

Did you know there were seven prophetesses in the Old Testament of the Bible. Miriam was one of the seven. A prophetess, or prophet, was someone who spoke for God. Can you name the other six prophetesses in the Old Testament?
